Minutes of the Board Meeting of the Needle Arts Guild of Toledo - October 2, 2008

The Board of the Needle Arts Guild of Toledo met at the Sylvania Branch of the Toledo Lucas County Public Library at 6:30 pm on Thursday, October 2, 2008. Maria Nowicki presided and Caren Scarbrough, Anna Kerlin, Diana Myers, Su Pelitieri, and Annette Hill were present.
At Maria’s request, Caren will preside at the regular meeting next week due to a work conflict for Maria. Maria reported that the administration of the Toledo Botanical Garden has cancelled the quarterly meeting with resident organization representatives that was to be held on Wednesday, October 8. Instead, Janet Schroeder has requested that she meet one on one with the representatives in the coming weeks. Maria has been scheduled for a Friday later in October.
The visitor information cards from our show were given to our membership chairman, Diane Myers. Maria arranged for delivery of the gift basket to a visitor who lives in Rossford.
Treasurer Nancy Wright is not present, but will present her report at the regular meeting.
Show Registrar Su Pellitieri reported that the names of ribbon winners were listed online at our website. A written report has been compiled for our records. It has been suggested that Sandy Rogers be our judge next year.
Annette Hill attended the Great Lakes Region fall meeting in Dayton on September 20. She reported that the issue of the regional scholarship fund proposal has been tabled pending further development by the board. Melba Moore is coordinating efforts to compile a set of small projects that can be used as meeting programs, and encourages us to solicit contributions from members.
Newsletter Editor Su Pellitieri advises that the next newsletter deadline is October 25. She reported as leader of the Group Correspondence Course that the projects are due for evaluation in December.
Caren Scarbrough reports that she continues to prepare for the fabric book program which she will teach at our November 1 Stitch-In at the 577 Foundation in Perrysburg. She is still shopping for the best deal for the books and will purchase them for all who have requested them. Payment will be due from members after she has determined the exact price.
The Board discussed formation of the Nominating Committee. Caren will ask for volunteers at the October regular meeting. We would like to have Nancy Wright, Marianne Mussett, Karlyn Thompson and Sue Wiemer consider doing this task for us. We need nominees for President Elect, Program Chairman, Secretary and Assistant Show Chairman. The Board would also like to line up an Assistant Program Chairman this year, who would then become Program Chairman the following year.
We will remind members to work on their Christmas Stocking themed ornaments for our December raffle wreath. This wreath will be donated to the TBG Heralding the Holidays raffle, if they organize one. If not, we will raffle it at Heralding the Holidays to benefit our own treasury.
Irene Leonard has offered to donate the gift for our October meeting opportunity drawing. Sue Wiemer is bringing refreshments.
The Board has discussed hiring a teacher for a weekend workshop. It has been a while since we have sponsored a program, and our treasury balance has increased. We will ask for teacher or technique suggestions at the regular meeting.
When Maria meets with Janet Schroeder at TBG, she will discuss reserving our meeting dates for the Terrace Room. Anna Kerlin reports that our volunteer hours at TBG are tabulated from October to October, so we will soon know whether we qualify for free rent, or will be paying the $120 fee for room rental. 100 volunteer hours are required by our charter with TBG, but if we volunteer for 200 or more hours a year, then room rental is waived.
The meeting was then adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Annette Meyer Hill
